When Did Today’s AI Start?

Today’s AI begins in 1955 when John McCarthy organized a conference on “Artificial Intelligence,” along with Alan Turing, Marvin Minsky, Allen Newell and Herbert A. Simon.

  • McCarthy was the one who coined the term “Artificial Intelligence,” in 1955 and organized the famous Dartmouth conference in the summer of 1956.  This conference started AI as a field of study.

  • John McCarthy (MIT), invented the LISP language in 1958.  LISP stands for List Programming and was the first AI programming language.


Examples of Artificial Intelligence

  • Google Echo to Amazon’s Alexa, Netflix, Uber, Lyft, Chatbots, Tesla, you are now surrounded by AI.

  • One of the main drivers for AI is the world of digital and social media.

  • Smartphones and social media like Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, Snapchat, etc.

NASA is using deep-learning to make intelligent robots to explore places in space where humans cannot go.
