"Heritage Wildcrafter" Jackie Dill is considered by many to be one of Oklahoma's natural treasures. Her friends call her an Earth Artist. For over 50 years she has been embracing and living the the life of a heritage wildcrafter. Embracing and living traditions have been handed down by her Native American family for many generations. Just as those who came before her, Jackie has continued these traditions by teaching and inspiring her children and grandchildren. For Jackie Dill the art of wildcrafting is a way of life and a daily pursuit. Over the last twenty years Jackie has led educational "foraging" walks for the purpose of identifying wild edibles, herbs and mushrooms in Oklahoma. Many of these techniques could even be called survival skills. This book is written from her perspective as a wildcrafter. It is unlike many field guides that foragers use, as it is more than a list of names and photos. This book is based on heritage, knowledge and a way of life. The pictures in this book have been taken by Jackie or one of the members of her Oklahoma Wildcrafting group. These pictures play an important part of teaching others and Identifying many of the edible plants, herbs and mushrooms. Over the last few years wildcrafting has enjoyed a renewed appeal. People from all walks are excited to uncover the well kept secrets and techniques of successful wildcrafting. With many people in Oklahoma struggling with financial challenges, even putting food on the table can be very difficult. Jackie has made it a priority to help those individuals in need to add wild food to their home food supply and storage. She has also taught them how to forage to help feed their animals. Nothing is as rewarding to Jackie as helping those who are hungry to be able to supply enough food for their families. Due to her success in teaching and inspiring so many people, Jackie has been featured in many publications, videos and news reports in Oklahoma.
