Truthfully, that’s the question all of us are asking ourselves when we study the game. Whether we want to admit it or not, we want results and we want them FAST.
Then, we start playing poker, and we realize something: There are other motivated people. It’s been more than fifteen years since the Moneymaker boom. Most of the great edges have been discovered and obliterated.
You all remember my friend Mike Wasserman? He’s the gentleman I did How To Win The Sunday Million and How To Destroy Turbo Tournaments with. He’s the one who has made $1,000,000+ in PROFIT from online tournaments.
Mike has a new video series out that he did himself. It’s called Small Edges, Big Profit.
He sent me the videos recently, so I could decide if this project was a good fit for my mailing list. I only send things to you guys if I feel it’s worth the price and immensely valuable. I was curious as to what Mike had to offer. How many edges are there really left?
Then, I pushed the play button.
What I love most about Small Edges, Big Profit is it reminds me of when I was coming up in poker. This feels like one of those nights I was abroad, and a great player would say, “pick up this tab and I’ll tell you something worth your while.” Then, he would hit me with an edge I’d never considered, and it would be worth the tab a hundred times over.
These videos remind me of those nights abroad, because Mike is like a lot of those great players. He is kind, but his time is valuable. He has to be analytical to be so good at his job. He does not waste words. He knows his job is not to entertain you. This is a short video series for a reason. Much like a dinner conversation with a pro, Mike wants you to get the information fast.
But man, that information though…

I opened the videos from Mike, and this is what I found:
Preparation: Mike gives his ideas on how to be ready for the session. He pulls no punches while he discusses this. It isn’t a sexy topic, but he discusses why pros are NUTS about this and why it matters.
Mental Game: He goes into the basics of the mental game. This ties in with preparation, because if you’re breaking down consistently you’re not going to develop $1,000,000 profit margins. You have to stay consistent for long periods of time.
Proper Use Of Timebank: I thought this was a strange addition, but then again, I’m not the guy with Mike’s results. Then he got further into it…
Stalling Strategy: This video was worth the price of admission alone. Mike, in very careful terms, shows how everyone has been lighting money on fire since the dawn of poker. Answer the questions he asks at the beginning of this section truthfully, then hang your head in shame. You’ll understand why pros get so much more from their cashes when you see this. If you multiply this edge over years and years, it will pay for the video series 10-100X over. This is a must-watch for anyone who plays faster-paced tournaments online or live.
Fold Equity: Another fantastic video where Mike shows how he disguises his bets to force opponents into awkward situations they don’t recognize. He creates some excellent folds with these simple tactics. If you save one tournament a month with these strategies, which is extremely likely if you play often, then this video will pay for the video package every month.
Registration Theory: When I’m teaching guys how to make money from cash games I tell them “90% of my job is table selection.” What’s mind blowing about this video is Mike shows you how you can get absurdly soft table draws in tournaments if you just time it right! Instead of playing with the pros, you’ll be playing with guys who will either be terrified to make a move or will be donating their stack. Either way, this video on its own can increase your ROI in specific tournaments by 5% to 10%.
Bubble Play: This is another fantastic example of how people light money on fire. It’s amazing to see a guy like Mike Wasserman, who has done everything in online poker, still nail as many min-cashes as he does. A hundred bucks here…fifty bucks there…thirty there…a little ladder there. Boom! He’s at seven figures.
He shows you exactly how he gets through the bubble period in this video and pockets buy-ins other people gamble away. Awesomely enough, he also discusses the optimal way to play on final table bubbles as well. Incredible stuff for real grinders who want every single edge.
End Game Preparation: If you want to see how a poker pro outworks and out hustles the competition, you have to see this video. The best part about this video is EVERYBODY can attain these edges, but nobody does. Again, Mike doesn’t mince words or waste your time. He specifically shows you how people light money on fire going into the final table, by making it so they learn about their opponents only when they play the tournament-defining pot with them…as opposed to just working hard before the final table even starts! Even better, Mike shows you how to create the big pots at big final tables that give you the chip position to win. There’s no theatrics in his presentation, the edge isn’t pretty, and it’s not meant to entertain…but wow, does it work.
He also has some excellent points about how to abuse the crap out of two-day tournaments.
Bonus Video: Mike gives two edges away here which I have found extremely consistent over my career. I liked how he finished off with these. If you can implement them, and use them to mold your opponent’s ranges, I think you’re going to be in fantastic shape for the years to come.
