This is the fourth and final concert in Vaibhavam 2018- our concert at the Mylapore Fine Arts. With the bright Ekadantam of Dikshitar and a peppy Palintuvo in the vivadhi raga Kanthamani taking the concert off to a breezy start, the soulful Sankari Neeveyani ushered in a sense of quiet composure. This evocative composition of Subbaraya Sastri is one of our most favourite compositions- what a beautiful feel of Begada it embodies!

Thodi. The grand old lady of ragas, but youthfulness incarnate! Inexhaustible, powerful and vibrant. We chose to sing Gati Neeye enru, the charming Ambujam Krishna composition with its expressive bhava laden line "Karuna Saagaran Nee Allavo" anchoring the neraval in an emotive soundcape. Abheri, as the choice for Ragam Thanam Pallavi brought in the "Janaranjakam" element, with the popular Bharatiyar verse "Vellai Thaamarai Poovil Iruppaal" providing the ideal Pallavi lines! Graha Bhedam kalpana swaras (Revathi/Neelamani) in the Ragamalika section brought the RTP to a close, with a new Abhang "Kashi Jaao Mee Brindavani" winding up the concert. This Abhang (or to be more accurate- Gowlan- song of the milkmaid) which we tuned in Raga Brindavani to suit the setting of the song in Vrindavan, is very close to our hearts.

Charumathi Raghuraman again joins us in this concert, with the immaculate sound of her violin adding radiance to the concert. It is always a joy to sing to the accompaniment of veteran Sri KV Prasad whose vidwat and deep experience brings so much value to the music. KV Gopalakrishnan is one of those rare vidwans who follows the thought of the main artiste with an anticipation that is staggering in its accuracy! A dream team - and a fitting finale to Vaibhavam 2018!
