My workshops are small, intimate intensives intended to give you a solid base of skill in performance measurement (benchmarking, profiling) and for us to work together on problems specific to the applications you work on day-to-day. Class sizes are deliberately kept small (20 or less) so I can have plenty of interaction with every student. A one-day event, from 9am-5pm.
This workshop is a **SPECIAL EDITION** that I'm only going to be doing twice this year. It's a deep dive on ActiveRecord performance - N+1s, QueryCache, underused methods and techniques. It's going to be all about the ORM and how to optimize your usage of it to make your app faster.
Attending another one of my workshops OR having completed the Complete Guide to Rails Performance is encouraged but not required.
You will learn:
* A step-by-step process for finding and eliminating unnecessary and N+1 queries
* How to understand and prevent being cut by the ActiveRecord QueryCache
* All the underused and little-known methods that can be a big performance boost when you actually need to use them
* How to use and understand your SQL database's EXPLAIN ANALYZE reports
* ... and much more.
