Vithu Mazha- Songs of the Women Mystics

A musical revival of the poetry of women mystics from the warikari tradition. The poems date from between 12th-17th century CE, and are attributed to poets like Janabai, Muktabai, Aubai, Kanhopatra, and Sakhubhai. Shruthi Vishwanath has set these compositions to new music over the past 2 years, and is joined in the studio by ace musicians Yuji Nakagawa (sarangi), Shruteendra Katagade (tabla) and Vedanth Bharadwaj (banjo and guitar). 

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Vedanth Bharadwaj at SaMa, Chennai. This work has been supported by an Arts Practice grant from India Foundation for the Arts.
