and a 14-year-old from Ukraine are among the field looking to qualify for the main stages of the World Snooker Championship over eight days in Sheffield. Only the top 16 players in the world are guaranteed a spot at the Crucible, while 128 other competitors must head to the English Institute of Sport and battle it out to join the elite top 16. 17 professional players have pulled out of the event due to health and safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, but have been replaced in the draw by amateur players from around the globe. The format is different this year from last, with the lowest ranked players coming in at the first round and needing to win four matches to make it to the Crucible. Players seeded 1-32 in the qualifiers need only win two games to make it.
