When our expectations about the future are destroyed for a while,
And our ability to fix things in the present gets put on hold,
The best thing I've found to do is get myself ready for when life starts up again.
I've spent years working from home, in isolation, it's not something I prefer but it was cost-effective; I know a lot of ways to use TV and Movies and Games and Books and Songs to take my mind away from the present and into a future worth getting to.
I can't know how to advise anyone through this time period, but I'm happy to share my process in case it proves useful to spark ideas of your own.
I will send you examples of things that kept my mind future-focused and helped keep the frustrations, or even despair of the present at bay. I didn't always succeed at harnessing a compelling view of a future I wanted to work toward; plenty of times the doldrums got me or even sometimes something worse pulled me down. But these were the things that built me back up when I stumbled. I make no promises; I can only share my examples and give you my thoughts.

Bonus! [For the first quarter of 2020 I sent out New Year's Resolution Encouragement emails which have now morphed into this Workshopping the Future project. If you missed those emails you'll also be able to download a pdf which contains every message that was sent out.]
