In many cases, people were raised with programming and conditioning that communicates (on a subconscious and energetic level) that we shouldn’t express our emotions because it makes other people uncomfortable. Of course, this happens in subtle ways over time, and on multiple levels, often unconsciously played out without us even being aware of exactly what is happening.
Practice giving purpose to your pain, understanding where your emotions are coming from, and expressing and releasing them without hurting yourself or other people, as well as recognizing if you’re using an old, comfortable habit to numb yourself out or escape from reality.
These types of habits can include drugs and alcohol, but can also include shopping, serial dating or infatuation, sex addiction, people pleasing tendencies, and many more. These are all ways in which we look for the feeling of love in all the “wrong” places—it’s time to go within.
