This chapter is based on the original Township Warrantee Map of Maxatawny and Rockland Townships drafted by Irvin R. Heffner and was obtained from the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. The skeleton information by Mr. Heffner was extensively revised by this author in 2020 who supplied nearly all of the Survey and Patent Book references by examining the Philadelphia County Warrant Register for those warrants granted before Berks County was organized in 1752, and the Berks County Warrant Register after Berks was created. Further research involved looking up tracts in the Patent Register indices and examining the front and reverse sides of online individual surveys.  Three maps are included: (1) Mr. Heffner's original draft showing the metes-and-bounds outlines of each tract; Mr. Heffner's cropped map superimposed with atlas coordinates; and (3) Mr. Heffner's map with a modern road map superimposed on it.  Using the survey book information, you can see the original surveys online. We also added copious footnotes that give additional details for these owners and their tracts. Most of these land conveyances cover the mid-to-late 1700s. Once the land was transferred from the government to private individuals, all subsequent sales were recorded in the Berks County Courthouse.
