A self published story about two new adult cancer patients and how they spend an infinity avoiding what's really there.  Don't worry, I don't expect you to buy, especially at such a steep price without seeing a bit of it:

"When it reached the second floor, she stepped out and saw that he hadn’t seen her. It amazed her how he hadn’t heard her coming or seen her coming for that matter, either. Every time. No matter how obvious it was. As she tapped him on the shoulder, he turned around and picked her up. She guessed that maybe he played this game because they should, because cancer shouldn’t take over the daily blessings of being together.

Still holding her, he looked down at his watch and smiled. He gave her a slight kiss and then put her down, “You’re early,” He said.

“Mom had to come up early,” She shrugged, “Wasn’t my choice.”

He nodded. They talked about this before. “So yours still at normal time?” He asked.

She sighed. “It’s at two,” She answered him. Appointments like this were a drag even if they meant to save your life. Nevermind, they didn’t actually save your life, just kind of make it longer. “I don’t know if I wanna go though. Just kind of seems pointless.”

The group looked at them, everyone in various states of health and unhealth. The amassed group consisted of the island of misfit toys and they had elected, Jon as their totalitarian dictator, which was actually sort of sweet.

He looked at her seriously. “You need to go to it,” He said, wrapping his arms around her and laying his head on hers. “I’ll go with you if that’ll help.

The group murmured to themselves about the scene that unfolded before them. She never took too much notice of it, because they undoubtedly had thoughts on the matter and quite frankly, she didn’t even want to entertain his thoughts on it. Jon ignored them.

It hadn’t always been like this. She didn’t come up here before she met Jon and she didn’t always know the island of misfit toys. They were his ‘friends’ if you could call them that. Jon called them his minions and they seem to appreciate it well enough."
