PanelxPanel is the 2018 Eisner-nominated digital magazine celebrating the medium of comics. It’s edited by Strip Panel Naked host Hass Otsmane-Elhaou, and features a rotating set of writers ranging from critics to professionals, fans and comic stores.
Each issue has two halves across it's 90+ ad-free pages. The first, a focus on a particular comic and featuring a series of essays, interviews, process pieces and an exclusive Strip Panel Naked column all focused around that comic. The thirteenth issue covers Image Comics' The New World, by Aleš Kot, Tradd Moore, Heather Moore and Clayton Cowles.
The second half features regular articles, interviews, craft essays, a comic, and a series of comic recommendations from a range of comic-related voices.
This is a true celebration of the medium with every issue, looking at all the elements that make comics an interesting art form and great place to tell visual stories. This is a magazine that cares about comics.
This issue features an interview with Kot, Moore and the rest of the team on the craft and themes of the book. Tradd Moore also gives an insight to some of his process, and designer Tom Muller discusses how he tackles comics logos and dress. Plus the usual exclusive Strip Panel Naked article and all the other essays on themes in the book.
For the regular features, we have Craft Corner by Ro Stein and Ted Brandt on their collaborative nature to drawing comics. There's a quick-fire 5 Questions With... interview, plus writer Ollie Masters interviews ex-Vertigo editor Will Dennis on his career and process. Sarah Horrocks looks at Goodnight Punpun for Final Thoughts, plus there's a short comic, and more.
Of course, the usual bunch of recommendations from writers, artists, fans, critics and shops as to what they've been enjoying this month.
