PanelxPanel is a new digital magazine celebrating the medium of comics. It’s edited by Strip Panel Naked host, Hass Otsmane-Elhaou, and features a rotating set of writers ranging from critics to professionals, fans and comic stores.
Each issue has two halves across it's 70+ ad-free pages. The first, a focus on a particular comic and featuring a series of essays, interviews, process pieces and an exclusive Strip Panel Naked column all focused around that comic. The third issue covers Image Comic’s Savage Town by Declan Shalvey and Philip Barrett, with colors by Jordie Bellaire and letters by Clayton Cowles.
The second half features regular articles, with creator-on-creator interviews, craft essays, a short comic, and a series of comic recommendations from a range of comic-related voices.
This is a true celebration of the medium with every issue, looking at all the elements that make comics an interesting art form and great place to tell visual stories. This is a magazine that cares about comics.
This third issue features an interview with Shalvey and Barrett on their work. There's also an exclusive Strip Panel Naked article, and a series of feature essays on storytelling and themes linked to the comic by Deniz Camp and The Dregs writer Lonnie Nadler, alongside one by Nick Roche on Irish artists in comics.
For the regular features, Claire Napier (Women Write About Comics) takes on the Final Thoughts column, looking at her theoretical ending for X-Men. Elsa Charretier (Unstoppable Wasp) is interviewed by Chris Weston (The Filth, 2000AD). Artist extraordinaire Dave Gibbons is asked 5 Questions, and writer Paul Allor talks us through his approach to building story and characters around theme in Craft Corner. There's also a short comic, and a whole host of recommendations from writers, artists, fans, critics and shops.
