The Detailed Tract Maps produced by and purchased from Westmoreland County are truly a unique tool for researchers of Westmoreland Co. settlers. Each of the 353 detailed maps corresponds with a numbered box on the overall county "Frontier Map" (second image above)  The detailed maps show approximately 4-8 of the original tracts superimposed over modern maps. Consequently, you can locate precisely where your ancestor’s land was and see the roads and lots within it today. For example, my ancestor, Daniel Koch, who is on the 1790 census of Allen Township, Northampton County and moved to Mount Pleasant Township between 1791 and 1792, is shown in the upper left portion of Detailed Tract Map #243 above (I added the black boundary lines for clarity).  The third image above is Daniel's tract on Detailed Tract Map #243 superimposed on MapQuest, showing how today's road's often skirt around and define old tracts. As shown on this aerial view, rows of trees often act as boundary lines as well. MapQuest maps are not included in this download and this one is only included as an illustration of how today's maps can relate to original tracts. The last image above show's Daniel Koch's entry in the Atlas of Township Patent Maps of Westmoreland County and the reference to Detailed Tract Map #243 and its adjoining map #224 (which shows the neighbors to the northern portion of his tract).

NOTE: This file is included if you buy the Westmoreland County atlas.  If, however, you purchase a township download and want to access the detailed tract maps it mentions, you will need this file.
