"Mystic Towers" is my latest personal environment work, you may recognize these towers from the Mahabat-Maqbara palace in India, a beautiful piece of architecture with multiple influences such as neo gothic, indian, islamic... Wanted to give them an older and taller vibe than the originals, like if these towers where only visited by birds.
My main challenge here was to setup the main shapes of these towers proceduraly in Houdini to have complete artistic control over placement of windows, doors, railings, etc..A fun little exercise that allowed me to dive deeper into proceduralism and that I may use as a tutorial material in a near future. Please note that most of the details (like column base/capital, stairs supports, spikes...) are pre-modeled.
I added the vines and ivy geometry but not the full setup since I used external plugins to generate them.
For the render it was a great opportunity to try Vray for Houdini. And definitely happy to see some of my favourite nodes and features appearing into Houdini. I left my shading setup as it was. It is mostly proceduraly driven, but I am not allowed to shader some extra textures I used into this scene. (megascan and others)
