if you keep going in your sober car, moving away from day 1, then what kinds of things will improve? If you remove the booze, and allow for the transition time for things to get better, then what changes might you expect?
what can you do NOW that you can’t do when you’re drinking?
(we often get fixated on “I haven’t run a marathon” or “I haven’t moved out of my mother’s house,” and we forget some of the basic, lovely gifts of sobriety, that we get JUST by being sober...)
things like being able to drive after dinner, being able to read a book and remember it, not having to worry about how you smell when you go to the dentist. things like being able to listen when your teenage son speaks. you can change his entire life by being sober. who cares about whether you’ve done your master’s degree ;) to be available for your 17 year old when he shares that one thing, you can listen and empathize. this is huge.
