What are the regulations post-Brexit?

As of the launch of this product (10/2020), there are no regulations for those individuals, couples, or families who are looking to move to Spain after January 1, 2021.  They haven't been published yet.  Since that's the case, I've assumed what those rules are going to look like given how other non-E.U. nationals are handled.

This is very important!  Unfortunately given the way politicians/governments work, I don't anticipate a smooth transition.  But I have a lot of experience with the Non-Lucrative/Retirement visa, and I will be following the changes to the regulations very closely between now and when those regulations are published.

Are the rules going to change a lot from what they are now?

I don't know the answer to this (no one does), but I would bet the answer is yes.  I am expecting that U.K. citizens will be treated the way Americans are treated.  If you can beat the clock, and obtain your Spanish residency before January 1, then I strongly urge you to do it.  Why?  Let me provide just a few examples of how I think the process will become more involved for U.K. citizens:

• Paperwork - There will most likely be many more documents that you'll need to provide to establish residency.
• Greater Expense - The financial requirements will probably be much higher than they are (or were) in 10/2020.
• Unknowns - There are many ways in which the regulations could be changed, and having those unknowns can make planning a move to Spain very difficult.

How many types of translation are there?

Three. You'll want to know exactly how many types there are, and which one you're going to want to use, and they are described in the Translation of Documents chapter.

Do you know where to go to obtain the necessary forms?

There are several forms that you'll need to download. The Obtaining The Required Forms and Downloading The Spanish Forms chapters give you the necessary information to find and download the proper forms from your particular Spanish consulate.

Do you know what an Apostille is, where to get it, and which documents need it?

The short answer is that an Apostille is a type of document authentication. It’s provided by the U.K. government, and it’s necessary for several of the required documents. All of the Apostille details are mentioned in the Apostille — Not The Candy chapter. 

Do you have a projected timeline for the visa process?

I would be surprised if you did. With so many variables outside of your control, it’s hard to know WHERE to begin but also WHEN. Do you know how many visa requirements there are?

You better! The Gathering What You Need chapter discusses those requirements and provides you with specific guidance for each. 

How are you going to keep track of all of the documents?

You will be tracking forms, documents, and other requirements, and you better have a system to help keep you organized. What you need is the Visa Requirements Checklist! What is it?
