Food insecurity seems to be a significant issue for college students. It is necessary to expand research on different campus settings and further strengthen support systems to increase access to nutritious foods for this population.
Webinar participants will understand the:
o Importance of addressing food insecurity among students of higher education programs.
o Determinants of food insecurity among college students.
o Need for assessing and understanding the challenges that students of higher education programs face in order to design effective food insecurity and nutrition interventions.
Megan Patton-Lopez, PhD RD is currently a Post Doctoral Research Associate at Oregon State University focusing on community based nutrition and physical activity research among high school youth. She completed her ACEND Accredited dietetic internship program at Oregon Health Science University where she served as a HRSA Maternal and Child Health trainee in Public Health Nutrition. Prior to completing her PhD in Public Health she worked with low income middle and high school students as a youth counselor with the Federal TRIO Program in Louisville, KY. Her research interests include understanding the sociocultural and environmental determinants of food access and safe recreation spaces among vulnerable populations.
