Low Back Osteoarthritis is the gradual wearing away of the smooth articular cartilage that lines the surface of the joints. If cartilage wears to expose the underlying bone, then friction irritates the joint and it becomes inflamed and painful.
The following symptoms are associated with low back osteoarthritis:
- Pain and stiffness which is worse in the morning or after sitting.
- Accompanying sciatic referral into the buttocks and leg.
- A feeling of tightness, or ‘guarding’ in the surrounding muscles.
- Difficulty standing, weight bearing or walking.
Low back Osteoarthritis is irreversible, however the effects can be managed well by reducing the amount of inflammation in the joints and by keeping the surrounding muscles relaxed.
Our treatment guide will show you how to manage the pain and accelerate the body’s natural healing process. Strengthening and mobilisation exercises will help you achieve normal pain free movement.
