Over a decade ago, I found myself in a corporate job out of college when my body started to shut down. You name it, I had it. You name the doctor, I saw them. Over 500 doctors, Mayo Clinic, two bone marrow biopsies, muscle biopsies, Lyme disease, PCOS, Candida, Leaky Gut, C-diff Colitis, Hypothyroidism, Epstein Bar….the list goes on and on and on. I was put on pain killers, steroids and water pills – Band-Aid solutions – at the age of 22 and was told that was all doctors could do for me. I felt lost; I felt confused and most of all I felt like no one was on my team. I had to figure out how to be a team of one and heal my own life. I learned that I could not just settle and listen to one doctor – I had to take little bits of knowledge from all the doctors I encountered and put together the pieces of my own puzzle. I am delighted to be by your side as you embark on your own health journey. I am here to share with you all the information that I have learned over my ten years of illness and take a holistic approach to your healing process.
What is Dysbiosis?
Dysbiosis is the imbalance between the good and bad (harmful) bacteria within your gut, which causes to inflammation in the body. I had dysbiosis for many years and doctors didn’t ever address it completely- they just put me on supplements and never addressed the big picture, which was incredibly frustrating. Most of us have some bad bacteria in our bodies, but thankfully, because of our strong immune systems, we are able to fight off the bad guys and the good bacteria in our body keeps them calm and prevent them from becoming harmful! However, a diet consisting of processed foods and sugar, stress, viruses, infections, birth control pills, lack of sleep, alcohol, antibiotics, steroids and acid-blocking drugs like Tums, all contribute to having the bad guys grow and eventually overtake the good guys. This is when Dysbiosis sets in and the bad bacteria take charge; this leads to many symptoms and eventually chronic health issues.
The following are symptoms of dysbiosis in the body: bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, rashes, acne, migraines, bad breath, foul smelling stool, mucous or blood in stool, fatigue, burping, food sensitivities, gastritis, indigestion and having issues when eating carbs, fiber and sugar. Many people ignore these inflammatory symptoms, viewing them as nothing and ‘common’, however, they are anything but that.
Most of the time, the root cause of the inflammation is toxicity, which is why it’s key to address detoxifying the body on a daily basis. Detoxing allows the body to get rid of the toxins that are stored in our fat, tissues and fascia as well as in our organs! Don’t worry, detox is not about depriving yourself or going on a cleanse. This program walks you through how to get to the root cause of your Dysbiosis and how to change your lifestyle so that you can live pain-free.
A Different Approach to Healing
You may be experiencing Dysbiosis, but have never looked beyond Western medicine to Integrative/Functional Medicine, which gets to the root cause of health issues instead of putting a Band-Aid approach on the problem, which is what Western medicine does. This may sound overwhelming and trust me, I know because I felt overwhelmed many years ago when I embarked on this journey. Western medicine failed to address my health issues and couldn’t help me anymore, which is how I discovered this other way of healing the body.
First and foremost, this program begins with an introduction video of me (Amie) talking to you to get you started. I walk you through what supplements to take, foods to eat and foods to avoid, lifestyle shifts, health management tips, a one week meal plan that is specific to Dysbiosis patients and quality information that I’ve compiled from numerous M.D.’s over the last decade of my healing journey.
