While I have been a long term user of NI Kontakt and have used it as my main sampler, now that I have UVI Falcon I can feel myself falling out of love with Kontakt. What drew me to Kontakt was the filters and this was what drew me to Falcon. I tend to focus on using the Xpander Filter because it really is my most fave filter which I have in Eurorack form and my filter of choice in the MI Shruthi. Of course it was the filter in the Oberheim Matrix 12 & wpander - hence the name. UVI's digital emulation is wonderful. Together with our MC202 samples Falcon really does sound as good as hardware and at least one "hardware nut" exclaimed that he could not believe he wasn't playing hardware when I sent him a few patches. To create the sample set I took 18,000 raw samples of 200+ Roland MC202 patches and mapped them for Falcon. To show what is possible, when using our samples, I created 96 patches using the Xpander Filter. Of course you can change the filter and get a totally new patch but the choice of filters within the Xpander Filter is enough to create a never ending number of patches. Why not change the number of poles used from a 4-pole to a 1-pole, 2-pole or 3-polee, or change a 3-pole low pass to a 2-pole high pass (keep in mind you may filter out the vast majority of the patch switching to a high pass). On some of the patches I have an added high pass filter as something of a homage to the popular Roland Juno synths and, of course, because it is extremely useful when creating a patch that will cut through a mix. If you own Falcon this sample collection is a must-have collection.

Falcon Interface

I have not yet learned how to program a complete interface for UVI Falcon but I have added the most useful functions to the "Info" page so that bespoke patches can be tweaked to perfection. Some are complex and a few are basically equivalent to a soft synth based around an MC202.
