The Golf God

LOCATION:
A room

PROPS:
Something to hide the altar inside (a door, a cabinet, closet, or blanket will do), golf clubs, tees, golf balls, candles.

TIME:
3 minutes

CHARACTERS:
Bill: A faithful golfer.

Golf God: A booming off-stage voice.

PURPOSE:
To help us understand the role of idols in our lives.

PRODUCTION NOTE:
The Golf God will need to be mic'ed.  It would be great if the sound man can add any "effect" to his voice.

THOUGHTS:

Idols come in all shapes and sizes and they don’t always look like mythical creatures.  Sometimes we find them around the house and don’t even know we worship them.

You can really tell the heart of someone by their excuses for missing a Sunday service.  “We had some friends in from out of town,” “We’ve been really tired and slept in,” “We decided to spend some quality time together.”  Nothing else in their schedule was forced to shift, except their service and worship to the Lord.

We don’t have time to pray, but we have time for recreation.  We don’t have time to spend with their spouses, but we have time to go out with the co-workers in the office.  We don’t have time to read the Bible, but we have time to read a magazine.
