Developing High Impact Research Poster Presentations

This webinar will support students and other researchers to prepare excellent research posters for conference presentation. Coherent conference posters facilitate an organic exchange of ideas between the presenter and the audience. Webinar attendees will learn the best practices for developing and presenting high impact conference posters, in perfect time to prepare for SNEB’s annual conference. Participants will learn how to organize and effectively showcase their contribution to the field and will understand the added benefit of presenting their work during conference poster sessions.

Learning Objectives

Participants will understand the value of research posters and the purpose of poster sessions.

Participants will be able to describe the best practices for creating high impact posters, including organization, layout and how to effectively showcase their contribution.

Participants will learn how to read and engage their audience in meaningful discussion.

Brandy-Joe Milliron, PhD, Drexel University

Brandy-Joe is a community nutrition scientist with training in cancer prevention and control, bio-behavioral sciences, nature-based health promotion, and program evaluation. My current research explores the ways in which nutrition, wellness, and healing behaviors promote healthy cancer survivorship. This not only includes cancer free survival, but also the prevention of prevalent comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and second malignancies. As the impact of a cancer diagnosis is far-reaching, my work includes innovative health promotion strategies among informal caregivers, family and friends. In addition to cancer prevention and control, my research spans from global nutrition and maternal, infant and young child feeding, to garden-based nutrition education, food-related decision making, and the evaluation of community food projects. Additionally, I am passionate about improving our understanding of how exposure to nature influences health behaviors and quality of life.

Katherine Gardner Burt, PhD, RD, Lehman College

Katherine teaches courses in community and public health nutrition and cultural foods and sustainability. Her research broadly aims to reduce racial and ethnic inequities in community food systems in the Bronx and NYC as a whole. She does this by exploring strategies to strengthen efforts to grow food locally and improve community cohesion and social connectedness to build a more just food system. She also aims to reduce inequities in food systems by increasing opportunities for low-income people of color to excel in dietetics and food-focused careers. She takes a mixed methods, community-based approach to research and currently works with several New York City based non-profit organizations.
