NOTE - I'm developing a brand new version that will work with Blender 2.8 and that I hope to release before it comes out of beta in July, but until then this plugin only supports Blender 2.79.
Capsule is a plugin for Blender that augments the in-built FBX exporter, allowing you to automate the export of hundreds of objects in a scene with a single click. It features Export Lists, reusable Export Presets, automated export organisation tools and a bunch of other cool things.
This is a project i've been working on for nearly a year, although it was originally designed to help me out in preparing 3D assets for Unreal Engine 4, to take out the time-consuming process of resetting transformations as I couldn't find anything else to help me out. It ended up being a far bigger and more detailed add-on however, and i've poured a substantial amount of time in making it flexible and feature-packed to suit a variety of peoples needs.
Although I probably won't gain the time back I spent in trying to make this process more efficient, I hope it helps anyone else out there who faces similar production pipeline issues!
I was initially charging $15 for the plugin, but i'm now selling it on a Pay What You Want system as I really want to encourage people to use the plugin - my work would have been in vain otherwise. If you can contribute even a few dollars though, that would really help me out, and allow me to continue working on the plugin.
The purchase includes the plugin, licensed as GPL, with all future updates. It also includes a 5-page Quick Start Guide, which covers the basics of how to use the plugin.
Batch Exports - Mark hundreds of objects and groups in a scene for export and export them all with one click. If you've made changes to assets in the scene and need to re-export them, it's as simple as one more click.
Export Lists - Get an overview of all objects prepared for export and quickly change their settings from the list.
Export Presets - Create detailed sets of export settings that define how your objects and groups get filtered and processed into FBX files that can be simply applied to objects and groups in the scenes.
Tags and Passes - Passes let you export your objects and groups in multiple ways, creating a separate FBX file for each pass. Tags let you define automatic filtering rules for Groups that make passes even more powerful.
UE4/Unity Tools - The plugin includes special, in-built Unreal Engine 4 and Unity presets that help ensure exported models appear exactly as they do in Blender, while providing a few extra features (If using Unity, there's currently a few caveats when using Capsule, see the FAQ below for more info).
Automated Folder Structures - Capsule lets you automatically generate folders for your exports on a blend file, object or pass level to help keep complex export setups organised.
What version of Blender does the plugin work with?
2.77a and onwards.
Are there things that Capsule can't currently export?
Theres a few use cases where Capsule may have trouble exporting assets from your scene:
- Animations that aren't attached to Armature Bones - Capsule currently doesn't support this, sorry! :(
- Bone Constraints - The "Preserve Armature Constraints" button under the Armature tab in the Export Presets menu can help if you need to export an armature with bone constraints, as it is unlikely to export properly when left. This however is currently an experimental feature, so results may vary.
- The Unity 5 Export Preset - Certain exports with Constraints that manipulate rotation and Modifiers that rely on an axis, such as the Mirror Modifier, are unlikely to work without applying/muting them first. This preset also can't currently be used on multi-user objects.
All of these issues are my top priorities for the development of Capsule, and will be worked on to be mitigated or fixed entirely.
