The Brahma Gana Sabha concert being the first Season concert in the month of December - there is always a sense of heightened anticipation, for both artiste and rasika. This concert had several fresh inclusions to our repertoire- Aadinaye Kanna with its appealing free flowing lyrics, Maname Kanamum, the ever-popular song immortalized by the great MSS, and ofcourse, the Tri-Raga Ragam Thanam Pallavi in Sri, Neelambari and Bindumalini. The Pallavi lines were written around the concept of numbers 1 2 3- 'Eka'kshari for Sri, Pada 'Dhwaya' for Neelambari and 'Tri'pura sundari for Bindumalini. Set in a tight Kanda Jampai Tala cycle in Tisra nadai, it was both exhilarating and a challenge to weave in and out of the ragas in quick succession as the Pallavi drew to its climactic end! The much loved lines of Vallalar "Petra Thaai Thanai" heralded Maname kanamum and the soulful Marwa Abhang "Anandacha Bhog" (yet another first in a season concert) brought the concert to a close. The superbly accomplished Charumathi Raghuraman matched us- step for step, as did the brilliant percussion duo of Delhi Sairam and S.Krishna who lent so much energy and grace to the music. The Brahma Gana Sabha remains the only concert in the season where we can sing without worry of time constraints- a full three hours and then some! We are delighted to open the Vaibhavam 2018 series with this release!
