Born in 1901, Erickson was an American psychiatrist and psychologist specializing in medical hypnosis and family therapy.
He was founding president of the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis and a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Psychopathological Association. He proved that the unconscious mind is creative and solution-generating, and he was widely regarded for his ability to achieve things for patients in hours that they had struggled to attain for many years. He was a leader in "brief therapy", family therapy, and neurolinguistic programming.
