ExpressionShorts is now available for download for the first time ever. All fifteen episodes are included. This popular video tutorial series focuses on After Effects Expressions. Not to be confused with After Effects scripting. There is a difference between the two. Expressions are bits of code that can be applied to any After Effects layer property that you can keyframe.
Expressions are for creating automated animation without the use of keyframes. Animations like having a layer automatically fade in or out on it's own without you having to change keyframes every time. While Expressions cannot manipulate outside information like files or assets within your project panel, they are able to create and read values that are then applied to the property itself. The Wiggle Expression for example can be applied to the Position property to have a layer move about on it's own like for camera shake effects.
After Effects Scripts on the other hand allow for more application, file, and project asset access. They can read and create files, as well can also create and apply Expression code to properties. Scripts are much more powerful in the overall application.
In this collection each video tutorial explains step by step the use and how to build the Expression. Also included are matching text documents with full breakdowns as to how each line of code works. These text documents can be handy for a quick refresher and for copying and pasting code snippets.
