TRANSPOSES separates gender from sexuality and illustrates six fascinating true stories of queer trans masculine people. The result is laugh-out-loud funny, heartbreaking, challenging, inventive, and informative.
TRANSPOSES features six short stories based on interviews I conducted with real-world people, which I then adapted into comics. Each chapter explores a different person's understanding of what it means to be queer and trans. Cal is a trans man on a business trip, looking to hook up with a gay guy he met online. Henry is a bisexual, polyamorous genderqueer whose masculinity mirrors that of his gentle, artistic father. The intertwined narrative of Aaron and James follows the life paths of two trans men who ultimately find happiness with each other. Adam feels isolated in his struggle with gender dysphoria until a perceptive partner introduces him to the concept of queer trans men. As a non-binary person, Avery struggles with balancing unearned masculine privilege and relieving physical dysphoria through medical transition. Blake contracts an STI after a one-night stand, and now has yet one more thing to come out about.
From the foreword by New York Times bestselling author Alison Bechdel (Fun Home): “TRANSPOSES will teach you something about what it means to have a body and to feel desire. About what it means, in short, to be human.”
