Construction Documents Quality Control Checklists

The Construction Documents Quality Control Checklists were created to allow architects an easy way to maintain quality control over their drawings. I found the greatest challenges when leading the production team came from communicating expectations for drawing completeness.

The Canadian Construction Association identifies incomplete drawings as a fundamental issue that can cause delays, cost increases, and reduced productivity. In 2015, the CCA and its partners held a series of workshops to identify the key issues in order to achieve a solution.

Key findings include:

  • Prime Consultants will continue to be responsible for the overall coordination, with input from Sub-consultants.
  • Design Team Members need to be responsible for their own internal quality control, and be active in the quality control process to identify issues.

  • Communication, collaboration, peer reviews, checklists, and proofreading are solutions to develop high quality documentation.

There are many checklists available from the Canadian Handbook of Practice, or the Architect's Handbook of Professional Practice, but they can be cumbersome and difficult to maintain a record of what has been reviewed and when - especially when there are several views and details on a sheet.

The Construction Documents Quality Control Checklists are designed to alleviate some of that headache.

Simply download the PDF checklist package and print out as many as you require for the project. Include it with each view and detail for your project drawings for your Peer Review process.

This is a great chance for firms of all sizes to begin or enhance their Quality Assurance and Quality Control program.
