I have wanted to write this for such a long time. In hindsight, if someone had given me a book like this when I had just given birth, I wouldn’t have felt so alone and helpless at times.

I honestly thought that, given that I had completed study in relation to Early childhood, have twenty-two years of early childhood experience, had worked in Early Childhood for many years, I had read various books, learnt about psychology in the early years and understood development and temperaments that I would be okay… I was going to be an older mother… 39! And I thought I would have this in the bag- so to speak, and to an extent, I did!

However, the emotional rollercoaster of becoming a mother is at times… arduous!

No amount of training has prepared me for real life. This shit can only be learnt by ‘living it’. So my hope with this book is that I can help you (remind you) to trust your gut and know that not everything you read is right!

The following chapters are funny; at times raw, and always honest. Grab your cold cup of coffee and enjoy the book!

This book was written not by the side of a lake with my thermos of coffee that I would take to my winter cabin to escape this thing we call life… it was written with a laptop/phone with any spare five minutes I had; because this is the reality of being a mum - grabbing any moment you can to create an even better day than yesterday.

Stella Stead is an early childhood professional who has a Bachelor of Teaching in Early Childhood Education, a Diploma in Community Services (Children’s Services’) and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Stella has taught the Diploma of Early Childhood on a part-time basis to upcoming educators who are wanting to enter the industry part -time and also runs her own Early Childhood consulting business- Above and Beyond Early Childhood Consulting.

Her business offers mentoring and coaching to educators in the Early Childhood Field. Stella also delivers workshops to teams and Early childhood centres. Stella has recently spoken at the Parenting 2.0 talks in Sydney where she focused her topic on the importance of teaching resilience to children in early childhood. Stella proudly owns the title of ‘Global Ambassador’ for Parenting 2.0

Stella is a devoted and loving Mum to Imogen and a kick ass- wife to her husband Trevor. Together they are learning how to do this called ‘life’ as a family.
