Zoom Art Workshop: Draw Your Words

Date & Time: March 8, Monday, 7-9pm PST

In this workshop you will learn how to enhance your own handwriting to create your own hand-lettered designs. Express yourself with your own unique lettering using easily accessible materials that you may already have at home. The simple exercises and tools provided make the class an environment where students can explore and have fun! After some practice students will focus their attention on a very personal word to work on in class - their own names! This is a beginners workshop where the emphasis will be on loosening up and unleashing creativity rather than focusing on the technical aspects of hand lettering. 1.5-2 hours, max. 8 students (aged 14+).

IN THIS CLASS YOU WILL:

• Gain an understanding on what hand lettering is (and what it is not)

• Focus on creatively enhancing and embellishing how you naturally write letters to create your own letter form designs

• Use practice sheets and template guides to help you develop your lettering style

• Learn hand lettering terms and rules to help you create eye-pleasing motifs

• Work on your own name (or a word of your choosing) to hand letter

THIS CLASS IS FOR:

Those who wish to learn how to create their own style of hand lettered designs

People who love working with words and word art

Persons who wish to try something new and are willing to play and experiment with letter forms

THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR YOU IF:

You wish to learn about calligraphy, fonts or typography

You are looking for a very technical lesson in hand lettering rather than creative instruction

You are wanting to replicate or copy someone else’s style of lettering

* No experience nor previous knowledge is required to join the class. This is a beginners workshop where the emphasis will be on loosening up and unleashing creativity rather than focusing on the technical aspects of hand lettering.

MATERIALS:

Print Outs of PDF Templates Provided

Pencil

Eraser

Colouring materials like coloured pencils, markers, crayons, gel pens, watercolour paints, etc.

Mixed Media Paper or other paper appropriate to the colouring materials you are using

OPTIONAL MATERIALS:

Ruler

Scratch Paper

Cardboard (to protect your work surface)

Round #0-2 paintbrush, a palette plus tub of water and rag (if using paints)

NOTE: You will be given the Zoom ID and Pass Code 1 day before workshop starts. This is a class primarily for adults (16+) but students 13 years or older are also welcome but must be supervised by an adult. You must have basic computer skills have a device that has both audio and video. Refunds, minus a processing fee, are given up to 48 hours before class start, after 48 hours no refunds will be given.
