Healthy, sustainable eating patterns must address the unique nutritional needs of children, considering the impacts of food insecurity, malnutrition, obesity and educational achievement gaps on communities. The panel will discuss how prioritizing early childhood as a key opportunity to establish healthy dietary patterns can positively impact a child’s growth and development in the short-term as well as set the foundation for healthy eating habits later in life. Hear from state and national CACFP leaders on the programs and resources used to empower families with the knowledge and tools to make healthier eating decisions and create healthy eating habits.

About the Presenters

Lisa Mack

Lisa Mack is the Executive Director responsible for working with the board of directors to develop and implement the long-term operating plan to ensure the growth and success of the National CACFP Sponsors Association.

Nina L. Shapiro, MD, FACS, FAAP

Dr. Shapiro is director of pediatric otolaryngology and professor of head and neck surgery at the University of California at Los Angeles' School of Medicine.

Kristal Shelden

Kristal is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a Master's Degree in Public Health. As Nutrition Sciences Project Manager with Dairy Council of California, she leads projects and partnerships that promote the health of communities and ensures organizational activities are grounded in evidence-based science.
