Humans are subject to many external forms of learning, influence and motivation. These forms include the people in one’s life, such as parents, peers or personal heroes, and other influences such as stories told by books, movies and motivational speakers. Teachers, coaches and mentors can all play a part in shaping a person’s thoughts and feelings about the world in which he or she lives. This module challenges the participant to move forward from reliance on external sources of personal motivation to developing internal self talk and coaching techniques. These techniques are designed to help the leader take greater control over his or her life, direction and attitude. In addition the session takes the participant on a tour of possibilities for continuing one’s learning and development with the goal of staying relevant as a leader in today’s workplace.
