For about 40 years through the middle part of the 1800s, George Devol made his living as a gambler onboard the paddlewheel steamboats on the Mississippi River. His 1887 autobiography provides a fascinating account of his adventures, methods, victories and travails. It also delivers an intriguing first-hand account into the culture and economy of the Mississippi River valley in the mid-1800s including Devol's account of the Union gaining control over New Orleans during the Civil War.
For this audiobook, Bill Wiemuth has edited Devol's manuscript to include the most riveting selections in a presentation just under an hour.
