Education is a tough business to work in

I should know. I've been working in education for nearly 20 years. But you already knew it was tough, right?

It's a jungle out there, baby.

And that's true if you are a teacher, a trainer, or any kind of specialist educator.

Or a business owner.

Or all of the above like me.

Don't get me wrong, though. I’m usually pretty excited about what I do

But some days... Man, some days I can’t understand why anyone would actually choose to work in education.

Do you know what I mean?

We're all just trying to survive...!

If you're like me you didn't choose this kinda life.

You fell into it by accident.

And some days...

Well, there are some days you can't understand why you do what you do.

I'm here to tell you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And it's not a train about to run you over.

It's about the rewards

Don't get me wrong.

Working in education is very rewarding.

Not financially, of course.

Well... it can be.

But some days working in education is like being in a knife fight.

And you don't have a knife.

Or a life.

So what are you going to do?

What. Are. You. Going. To. Do.

?

Don't bring a whiteboard marker to a knife fight

Let’s get something straight.

We both know that the pen is mightier than the sword.

But it still damn hurts when they stab you with it.

And they will stab you.

It’s just a matter of time.

Neither of us saw it coming.

You need to teach yourself a lesson

As a teacher, I’m always thinking about the lessons learned.

That’s what this book is about.

It's for you.

It's about how to equip yourself to survive.

And hopefully, thrive.

But first of all, you need to protect yourself.

No Brass Knuckles Allowed

I’m not talking about that young offenders' class you might be teaching.

At least, if you sign up for working with criminal types you are probably aware of the physical dangers.

What I’m talking about is the slings and arrows of outrageous educational politics and bureaucracy.

We’re in a war zone, you and me.

At least that is what it feels like some days.

So I need to protect myself and so do you.

Because they will stab you and you will bleed

Sticks and stones right?

Cushy teaching position?

All those holidays?

That’s what my friends think… but they’re wrong.

You and I are on the front lines and in the trenches.

What's the answer?

Over the years, I've thought a lot about how to survive and hopefully thrive in a rapidly changing educational landscape.

What are you going to do when you've been metaphorically stabbed in the heart?

And you're bleeding out all over the floor?

  • Do you care?
  • Do you dare to challenge the status quo?
  • Do you know what the solution is?
  • Do you find you just can't keep your damn mouth shut?

You need to read THE EDUCATOR ENTREPRENEUR

The answer, or at least, the answer for me is this:

  • You need to start thinking like an entrepreneur in the weird world of education.

Will this make your life simpler?

No.

Thinking like an entrepreneur might even make your life a little more complicated - in the short term.

But this book teaches you the kind of thinking that can help to make your life easier.

You gotta get your head right... you've gotta have the right kind of mindset to survive and thrive.

To protect you, your family...

And keep working.

And still care.

What if I'm not a teacher?

Well, I've got some news for you...

We're all in the business of education.
