La Partida (Victor Jara, Chile)

1 rating

I developed the arrangement of this spectacular Chilean tune originally as an accompaniment to Chris Norman’s flute, back in 1985. I quickly discovered that it stands beautifully on its own.

This is a great lesson in learning and using root, 1st and 2nd inversion arpeggios. The other “take home” point is to see that a chord progression is the foundation for arranging. And it is so much fun to play. I also work through some harmony to the arrangement and some ideas for variations. If you follow the “script” and think chords, the arrangement is manageable even for relatively less experienced players.
