Transducers (Rich Hickey)

The basic idea of transducers is to extract the essence of map, filter and other functions that transform sequences and collections, and reuse this essence so that it can be applied elsewhere; to recast them as process transformations.

Map, filter, mapcat are functions of sequence to sequence. We model the rules, but they only work on sequences. When we get something new, like stream, channel or observable, none of the rules apply.
