After the release of “Fragments” in May 2016, David Andrew Wiebe returns with another single, “City Lights”, a Synthwave (or Retrowave) inspired composition that highlights both his 80s sensibilities and ability as a composer.

As the title would suggest, the moody and atmospheric “City Lights” evokes images of nighttime highway driving and the hustle and bustle of city life.

Thematically, the music captures the not-sleeping-until-I’m-dead attitude adopted by go-getters who worship fortune and fame at the expense of relationships, family life, and even their health.

His latest release is yet another extension of his personality, and at the same time, an evolution. “Fragments” was a jazzy guitar instrumental, and his first solo album, Shipwrecked… My Sentiments was a deliberate move away from anything popular or easily digestible.

But as with “Fragments”, “City Lights” is incredibly listenable and infectious. It is clearly inspired by 80s soundtrack music, which made a bit of a return in the mid-2000s, and continues to proliferate even today.

Watch as Wiebe’s musical expression continues to unfold.
