Nestup is a Max for Live device that approaches rhythm in a completely new way. It embeds Nestup—a powerful language for expressing complex rhythms—directly into Live. Rhythmic ideas that would be difficult or impossible to create in a MIDI clip can now be described in just a few short keystrokes. With Nestup you can easily create tuplets of any subdivision (triplets, quintuplets, septuplets, duovigintuplet), nested rhythmic containers (triplets within triplets and more), and time signatures with fractional beats.
Generate and experiment with rhythms from traditions whose music does not necessarily divide into twos and threes, such as rhythms by musicians such as Tigran Hamasyan, drawing from Armenian folk traditions, or the nested tuplets common to "New Complexity" composers like Brian Ferneyhough.
We promise you will have fun with Nestup. Want to explore the language first before you buy? Visit the online playground and use "Export MIDI" to open your rhythms in any DAW. Read the device manual here.
