CLIMB 5.12 (training only on routes) is a periodized 12 Week Training Plan written specifically for the route climber who is climbing in the mid 5.11’s but hopes to break into the 5.12 grade, and for whatever reason, be it age, knee issues, or just plain dislike of bouldering, wants their climbing training to be only on routes.
The Plan consists of 3 phases to improve your endurance, power, and power endurance, as well as the mental tenacity required to climb 5.12.
You will need access to routes (and a patient belayer or partner), a fingerboard, and some sort of suspension trainer, such as a TRX or one of the many homemade variations that can be found on Youtube. It is also helpful to have access to dumbbells or kettlebells.
