Out The Buckhorn Way (Leonard Sexsmith, British Columbia)

This piece came to me via the Michigan hammered dulcimer player Bob Hubbach's wonderful CD Out the Buckhorn Way. We were thrilled to have Bob Hubbach attend one of the Sandbridge weeks. For many decades, I have greatly appreciated his love of traditional music, his search for good tunes, his tasty backup and his touch which reveals his understanding of the phrasing of traditional music. Bob is a connection to the previous generation of the revival of the hammered dulcimer. In these lessons, we cover how the chord structure is revealed in the melody, how to handle the tricky syncopation, some subtle variations and a backup that is a mix of harmony, groves and bass lines. I hope you will see the chord structure in this one.
