Why use overhead Olympic lifting variations?
Overhead Olympic lifts and variations of the push jerk are a fantastic way for boxers to improve strength, speed, explosiveness, and develop a fantastic “snap” in a punch. Furthermore, improvements in shoulder strength, stability and general shoulder health can be made, which is massively beneficial to boxers. This can lead to great improvements in punch performance. However, the Olympic lift variations can often be difficult to teach and learn.
We can use regressions, variations, and derivatives of these Olympic lifts, appropriate to the individual to allow our athletes to make fantastic gains in strength, speed and explosiveness, with lower technical demand, and therefore less teaching and learning time.
In our workshop- Overhead Olympic Lifting for Boxing and Combat Sports, forming part of the 2018 Combat Conditioning Conference, Dave Hembrough takes Boxing Science athlete and professional boxer, Nicolie Campbell through a series of overhead lifting variations we use with our boxers on our programmes.
This e-book provides guides, images, and coaching cues for the exercises Dave takes Nicolie through in the video workshop, which forms part of the Combat Conditioning Online Conference 2018.
