Unedited lunchtime sketchbook pages. 32 pages filled with observations of people I had seen. Colored pencil, pen and marker drawings

When I was six years old I found an artist sketchbook laying in my back yard, it was full with original pencil portraits and landscapes and I carried it with me everywhere I went.

That sketchbook became a source of inspiration for me as I drew throughout the years. As I put this sketchbook together, my intentions are to emulate that same sort of feeling to artists that I had. Imagine that I got up from lunch one day and left it on the table, and now you’ve picked it up, I had not left my name or address on it (not like that would matter) and now you own it. Sure I would be very upset that someone took my sketchbook, but after a year or two I would get over it. But during that time I would hope that someone else out there is being inspired by some random artists drawings.

After all, artists have constantly been inspired by other artists, that is how we better ourselves and we eventually form our own opinions as to what we feel works for us and what doesn’t We each have our strengths and we have our weaknesses. But the bottom line is, are you having fun, are you learning and enjoying what you are drawing.

This sketchbook differs from my other books in that this is completely uncut, straight out of my lunchtime drawing sketchbooks. These are my rough observations that I captured during my one-hour lunch breaks in various locations. They are drawn with Pencil, markers or pens. Drawing in my sketchbook is a way for me to increase my memory ability, my shape ability, and even more an opportunity to refine my style.

As the days go on and the years pass by, what I try to achieve as an artist is my own personal satisfaction, which is what it’s all about. I encourage anyone who is reading this, if you don’t already, to carry a sketchbook, observe people, especially if you want to be a character designer. Observe hairstyles, clothing, and expressions, draw from your heart, draw with feeling and create your own personal identity.

Enjoy!

All the best,

Silver
