"I constantly looked down into the 100 feet rock bottom of the steep cliff as I trekked the mile-long hike with my parents. For quite many times, mom was so worried she couldn't lift her feet up. With no trail, each step was difficult with the strong wind. I could barely take care of myself with the bad back, struggling with each step, but dad and I tried to help mom as much as we could, either by blocking the wind or lifting her up. We finally got there and saw the majestic black-browed albatross colony. Their grace and elegance made me feel self conscious with my little mind being overwhelmed by the materialistic world all my life. The albatross had no fear of humans. Many landed right next to us and walked around us, without a care about our presence, just like a dream. We sat on the steep slope, always felt as if we were being pulled down inch by inch towards the bottom by gravity each second. My fingers held tight onto the short grass next to me. "That's it, it's too dangerous, let's not go there again for the rest of the trip," mom said. I understood her worry and nodded. We spent our whole evening with them until sunset, watching these magnificent birds, with wing spans over 7 feet, and who can live for over 60 years and mate for life. I looked into their eyes, wondering what they had seen flying through the world. The mating pairs were so close to each other and showed great care to their chicks, it melted our hearts. The next day, my parents and I didn't talk about it, but we quietly hiked to that spot again. After the arrival, my mom said "we really should never do this again, its too dangerous." I nodded. We hiked there for the third time the next day, without me even asking. Without knowing, our hearts had already been deeply attached to them. My heart had rarely felt so peaceful, spending the few special evenings with these amazing birds, at the edge of the world."
