Fond, in day to day English speaking, is an adjective that means to be affectionate towards, usually in a doting and wholesome way. It’s also a French culinary term for the delicious cooked-on bits and juices at the bottom of a pan you can use to make stellar sauces and soups!
This zine is about turning a hodgepodge of bits and pieces into more than the sum of its parts. Also, all profits will be donated to Feeding America!
FOND is a multimedia charity zine project organized by the same dude who brought you LET’S RELATE! It has print and digital versions, and all profits will be donated to Feeding America! It has exclusive content by over 30 writers, cartoonists, illustrators, cross stitchers, and more.
Arranged by recipe type, FOND is intended to not only be a fun-to-read booklet for a good cause, but a somewhat functional cookbook. I want people to be able to marvel at how cool this zine is, then turn around and walk into the kitchen with it and make a snack.
WHY FEEDING AMERICA?
Though the idea came to me during the scare that Meals on Wheels was being straight up defunded, this has since proven to be a misconception, and that grants helping an array of poverty-aiding programs are what is on the line. Due to the widespread nature of this looming threat, I wanted to pick something that had widespread impact on a variety of impoverished groups, including but not solely for elders. Food banks are a HUGE help to people, especially families, and are often a lifesaver in the chunk of time before SNAP benefits reset. Additionally, since the majority of goods people get through them are ingredients rather than meals, I thought it would be super clever to have a cookbook focus!
It's a bigass zip full of awesome stuff and its pay what you want go get it. Any amount you spend here will go to Feeding America. However, Gumroad takes deductions out, so if you wanted to download for free and then throw money there yourself, that would be better for everything but my ego. Do it!
