        Quebec Waltz (Canada)

        Quebec Waltz (Canada)

This is a very simple melody that offers an absolute gold-mine of harmonization possibilities including three ways to harmonize the B part. You might have a favorite but I hope you will enjoy and learn each approach. I explore the “how and why” these different approaches work. The alternate chord progressions demonstrate how to explore chord choices that are not so obvious (such as the use of an Em against an A melody note, various secondary dominants, the use of major and relative minor to create a rising bass line and more). I also demonstrate the use of syncopations in the arrangement. Waltzes do not have to be played ONE-two-three. While this is OK it is often too predictable and, frankly, a bit boring! In the video, I emphasize making the connections between the chord progression, the arrangement and the backup. And it is just a beautiful piece of music!
