Mr. C the Globetrotter, A Book To Explain Cancer To Children

0 ratings

Has someone in your child’s life been diagnosed with cancer? Talking with children about cancer can go a long way in calming their fears and helping them develop coping skills. Mr. C The Globetrotter travels to countries all over the world, sharing a story about a child who has a family member with cancer. Readers realize they are not alone. Each page introduces a way the child copes with the changes to their routine, and ends with empowering readers with simple changes to feel stronger, wiser and happier.

This children’s picture book includes multi-cultural photos, easy language, and entertaining graphics.

Ideas for what to say and do to help include:

  • Giving a hug or a back rub
  • Saying, ‘I love you’ often
  • Listening to music together
  • Helping out around the house
  • Asking adult family/friends for help

Other ways the children express their feelings is to write in a diary, draw a picture or pray. So many ideas!

As a bonus, there is a world map at the end of the book showing all the countries introduced in the book. Also, every child in each country has a unique name with an interesting meaning.

REVIEWS

“At first glance, I had reservations sharing a book about anthropomorphizing cancer. Seeing my daughter’s engagement changed my opinion entirely. M.C. keeps it light; she chuckled multiple times. At the end, she said, ‘I like the way you can help get rid of it and still have fun together.’ Hide & Seek facilitated lots of conversation. I wish I had this book sooner!”

Christina Radzilowicz, Mother, Advanced Stage Cancer Survivor

“As much as I had a strong aversion to meeting M.C. personally, I fell in love with M.C. the character…strange as it may seem.”

Ronni Spoll, Founder, Chemocaps.com

“M.C. Plays Hide & Seek de-mystifies cancer—a truly wonderful resource.”

—Jennifer Deneault RN, BSN, OCN, Oncology Nurse Navigator

“M.C. Plays Hide & Seek makes it easier for kids to digest tough information.”

—Sam LaMonte, M.D., FACS

“There is wonderful imagery and flow to this book. The facts inform without frightening children.”

Karen Maurer, Librarian, Bethlehem, PA

“M.C. is addressed as something outside of a person, a clever way to make the subject of cancer more tolerable for children. Loved the photos, too.”

—Monica Fyfe, MFT, BCBA, Licensed Family Therapist, Torrance, CA
