Shakin Down the Acorns (Old-time)

0 ratings

This relatively simple old-time chestnut is very typical of A mixolydian as it alternates between the A and G major chords. And its' simplicity offers us a great opportunity for exploring a wide variety of backup ideas including thinking very out of the box! One pattern of just quarter notes uses ambiguously both an A major and a G chord, providing a really mysterious tension. We get more adventurous after that! We also explore lots of fun variations. The Ken & Brad Kolodner Quartet played the tune featuring hammered mbira and gourd banjo at “Clifftop” in the neo-trad competition (where we won 1st place)! We recorded it on our latest release Stony Run with my son, Rachel Eddy and Alex Lacquement.
