S P C | San Francisco, 'SF Zine Festival Special Edition'
DK Director Dipika Kohli put together this special edition for our studio’s appearance this month in the San Francisco Zine Festival. Works inside here are inspired by DK’s last trip to that city. That was six years ago. Jazz happened. A of it. And: it made us get super focused on bringing more improvisation into our work, once again.
Our lead story, ‘Soft Focus,’ is what DK had discovered at a jam session series that took us to several venues known, and unknown, to find the story. Which was, namely, how to set the stage so that participants (audience) could relax. Engage, connect with themselves, and others, in one moment. It worked. And it kept working.
Based on the gleanings from observations at jam sessions like this, DK’s ‘miniparties’ have gone to cities like Bangkok, Copenhagen, Malmoe, Helsinki, Phnom Penh, London, Rīga, and Hanoi. On-the-spot. Improvised. Fun. But yeah. All this. Got started. In San Francisco. A tribute issue? Something.
