Teenage Pregnancy – a Talking Points Lesson Plan for English Reading & Speaking

This is part of the Talking Points lesson series for Intermediate to Advanced students.

If you are teaching younger people or in certain countries, I will leave this lesson plan to your discretion. Sensitivity is required at all times.

This lesson plan features a story from a teenage college girl who become pregnant. Due to a lack of education about safe sex she has no idea what to do.

If you are in a school that teaches sex education, this lesson plan might compliment the curriculum very well.

It is a moral lesson but also an ethical one, young people need to be aware of the risks of pregnancy – or the transmission of an STI.

This lesson plan can help your students to converse in English and help put forward their views and opinions.

This subject is very topical and highly engaging. It should definitely create much debate in your English or ESL class.

The lesson comes complete with:

• a 500-word article

• a table of essential vocabulary

• a big list of questions for discussion

Start the class with the three opening questions and then do the reading. Then you can go through all the vocabulary – or set it as homework for the students to do later.

Then there is a big list of questions that are designed to get your students talking.

It comes in easy to use PDF format, ideal for printing for your needs. Use it again and again for your English/ESL classes.
